My daughter struggled with Maths and Literacy and her Primary Teacher telling me she just isn’t trying. I have dyslexia myself so I know what it’s like to not understand the math problem meanings and my printing was shocking for a few years too. Once my new Primary Teacher picked up that I maybe dyslexic I was shown other ways to figure out the Maths problems, I became top of the class more often, with that in mind I believed my daughter Jorja was trying, so I had to do something…
Nicolle was recommended to me by a Neighbour/ friend whose daughter had been struggling with dyslexia for years. Now she finds maths a lot better to deal with due to Nicolle’s tutoring skills.
Nicolle tested my daughter Jorja for learning difficulties and the results were dyspraxia and some dyslexia tendencies.
After the learning test I talked with Nicolle and she was very pleasant and knowledgeable with the learning processes.
Nicolle has been working alongside with Jorja for quite a few terms now and I have noticed that Jorja is progressing steadily with her Maths and literacy. Jorja is more confident and is approaching her school work with more pride. Jorja looks forward to each fun hour session with Nicolle after School which as a Mother I’m so pleased.
The Numicon learning tools/ shapes and patterns make more sense to the Dyslexic mind so it makes sense for this system to work. Jorja has a Literacy workbook which makes her think of words and sentence structures etc.
I’d like to take this opportunity so say a Big thank you Nicolle for all your passion and hard work along with Jorja. I feel the tutoring at this stage is a fantastic progressing point for Jorjas future.

I would really like to thank you for all the time and effort you have put into Jack and changing the way he thinks about Math. Even his teacher can not believe the change in attitude this term, so that’s such a bonus for him.
Cheers

We have many thanks to give Nicolle. With her dedicated one to one tutoring our son has gone from not even wanting to attempt reading, to consuming book after book. It is wonderful to see the world of books opening up for him.
Thank you, Nicolle and Moving Forward.

Nicolle tutored my son for 2 years. I found Nicolle to be very professional but with a great empathy towards her students.
My son enjoyed being tutored by her and gained a wealth of knowledge and confidence from his work with her.
I would highly recommend Nicolle as a tutor.

We have had the fortune of having Nicolle Oldham tutor my daughter twice a week for over 2 years.
My daughter has dyslexia and dyscalculia, which has created severe learning challenges with literacy and numeracy in the mainstream education system.
When my daughter began with Nicolle she was well behind her peers with her reading and writing. She struggled with simple sentences and only read comic books. Her self-confidence was low and she was very shy.
With Nicolle’s support she has made huge progress. She has mastered many words, now reads chapter books for pleasure, and can confidently read out loud – struggling with only a few unfamiliar words. Jemima has really enjoyed the Steps to Literacy program. She says she appreciates Nicolle teaching her how to use a dictionary, and how and where to use ‘ed’ and ‘ing’ on the ends of words. She also appreciates the way Nicolle taught her to be calm and relax when she was struggling with unfamiliar words.
The Numicon program fitted really well with my daughter’s dyslexic style of learning, as she found it much easy to understand maths concepts with tangible objects.
I would not hesitate to recommend Moving Forward to other students who are struggling to learn in the mainstream education. The mix of learning games, online learning programs, and an empathetic and patient teacher has contributed to my daughter’s success with reading, writing, calculation and general self-confidence.
Sincerely
Kate
